Awesome job, CK! You have the tools, man -- it looks superb. I hope the film spool turns as well as the tin's contents have undoubtedly turned many stomachs. :)

You Legend.
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
Thanks all ~ I'm having a lot of fun with this. My son was very curious to see me put this thing together and wants to make his own pinhole camera. He's amazed that a can of SPAM can take pictures. :)
@ chirgy ~ the SPAMera is loaded with film right now, but the next time I unload it, I'll try & take some more shots of how this thing was constructed.
buster/ken (89 months ago | reply)
dawg, this is good. even the price tag.

W-O-W, man, this is outstanding. I want one. Do you take orders? Would you? (or maybe blackmail would do?)
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
Thanks buster & meatbag...
Yeah, me and porky pig are regular Legends ;)
@-Ant- made to order my brotha... still working out the final cost to make one of these. Why don't you hunt down a funky Canadian SPAM tin and send it to me?
EricGjerde (89 months ago | reply)
Hormel has a pretty good sense of humor about these sorts of things, and they certainly like to sponsor oddball events (like their annual spam carving contests.)
you should definitely try! it's a good use of the can after you enjoy the delicious contents. (ahem.)
Meatbag (89 months ago | reply)
Err,spam is not the most pleasant of
"foods" (and im using the term food lightly here)

Thanks ori-gomi & meatbag
I really want to find some old vintage cans. So if anyone has one that they want to part with or knows where to find some... let me know.

the last time i made a pinhole my son had loads of questions for me too... it was the best part of making it!
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
when I took this photo of my son, his kindergarten teacher & class, the science teacher approached me and thought making a pinhole would be a good science fair project for the kids.
pinholing is great way to explore the art of photography for all ages...
and why not make it POP! while you're at too?

YEAH!!!
luscher (89 months ago | reply)
you stole this idea - which i had just this very minute - from me!
i want one i want one !
luscher (89 months ago | reply)
you didn't eat it ? it's not like there's any meat, or anything you'd find outside a chemist's lab ...
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
Luscher ~ I did steal the idea from you ;) when you were fooling around with that Holy Balls camera, I came in and snuck it out of your back pocket ;)
Since you're the ultimate photo detectives, I think I will make the next model SPAMera® in your honor...
THE SPAMlusher™ 100% Porkin' Good Times*
it most likely will come with a year suppply of something. Details on prototype specs to come from a SPAMera dealer near you!
*SPAM not included

Obviously Not to be taken as in medically a bad product.. or should not be offered up for consumption in an independent menu as there may be trouble handling the sinuious data in this certain tasty-morcell.... I was thinking it was going to be some cranky dream-weave on deleting somethings - more for future contextulisation
dr_loplop (89 months ago | reply)
Crazy Tasty! $3.99 is a very competitive price. Do you plan to launch a digital model?
lindes (89 months ago | reply)
wow, that's crazy ingenious, never mind tasty. (It was also just seen here, and I'm glad I got it!)
Hmmmmm, I may have to do some pinholing...... hmmmm, yeah... that's what I can do with that pile of old 35mm motion picture film I got, maybe. ;-) ahh, the ideas running through my brain right now. :-)
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
Dang ~ thanks folks
@dr_lolop ~ no immediate plans to make a digital SPAMera... but some of these Flickrites are already doing that Here
@lindes ~ I think that would be a good use of motion picture film. You might have to re-spool it though.
I'm thinking the next SPAMera I make will take 35mm film...
a smaller neg., but more shots.

re: motion picture film use... my thinking was actually more in the ignore-the-whole-frame-thing notion, with maybe some tweaked out panorama style stuff. :-)
We'll see if I actually make it happen, but it could be interesting and fun if I do. :-)
[ CK ] (89 months ago | reply)
You could fasten multiple tins together and run the film through all of them. Then fire off the shutters on each one???
you could go around the world and take SPAM-O-Ramic pictures with all that motion picture film of yours ;)
