This gorgeous "Black and Yellow Argiope", aka Garden Spider or Writing Spider, showed up on a fence near our house last week. Venemous, but no danger to humans unless you have a severe allergy to bug bites.

we used to get these out in Prosser, Washington. when i was a kid it seemed they were as big as my head, kinda spooky to come across all of a sudden cuz they made such huge webs, right at eye level, but we never got bit...knock on wood...
