Free the Beach! Collection
|
The City Project has spearheaded a strategic campaign to preserve public access to the beach, and to prevent destruction of the beach. The California beach is the latest front in the struggle for equal access to public places.
The beach collection includes sets of images about the Olmsted vision to double public beaches in the Los Angeles region, savng San Onofre state beach, the bulldozing of the public beach in Malibu in 2005, phony "No Tresspassing" and "Private Beach" signs in Malibu, and efforts to revive the forgotten history of Bruce's Beach, which was a black beach resort destroyed by the City of Manhattah Beach in the 1930s.
