Red Light Launch
December 15, 2009 - The City of Newark activated “Project Red Light” with a noontime ceremony at Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard on December 15, 2009. Automated cameras installed and operated by Redflex Systems will snap photographs of all vehicles that run red lights at the intersection and at Broad and Market Street, and issue $85 tickets to the vehicles’ owners. At the ceremony, Mayor Cory A. Booker “ran” the “first red light” and received a mock ticket.
