Abandoned Ferris Wheel

On a sleepy morning of a cross-country road trip, my wife pointed this out on the side of the road and we decided to stop by and check it out.

While you're visiting, check out my other abandoned photography! www.flickr.com/photos/cityeyes/collections/72157606119463...

    wow! How cool is that!

Where there any other rides or attractions still standing?

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

Yup Alx, there was a swing ride. I'll post photos of that later. I really wanted to get closer, but it was pretty early in the morning and the place was surrounded by swamps.

There was also a creepy trailer with lights on near it, so I didn't want to risk getting shot on my way down to my vacation spot.

    Really a cool find there.

    Delicious Decay!

Thanks for posting to, ”I Love Abandonment”

    That's amazing.

pfft. you let a little malaria, leeches, and risk of shotgun-motivated anal penetration dissuade you from shooting an abandoned theme park? What kind of an explorer are you?

  10. City Eyes (48 months ago)

Haha yeah Craig, I know I know.

The latter rather than the former actually. That, and the fact that at the point that we reached this place, I had been driving something like 15 hours straight with a half-hour of sleep or less.

I find functioning ferris wheels disturbing ... this one just about sends me out of my chair ... yet I can't stop looking at it. Thank you for braving the backroads to capture this fear/fascination shot!

    How lonely looking.
    Great shot!

    Gotta be Kudzu.
Makes ya want to build a metal heart shape 30 feet high, go off an leave it somewheres.

  21. kenyapurrz4me (46 months ago)

    Wow, I love this!

  22. Starherd (46 months ago)

This is really beautiful! The fog is incredible, but the picture would be great even without it. Thank you very much for going to the work to get this shot!

I got here by doing a google search for "ferris wheel kudzu" after this picture turned up uncredited (hosted by beercanhill on photobucket) posted to livejournal's abandonedplaces community. The person who posted didn't claim it was his but refused to even drop you a line here, claiming the pic was free internet property, so I signed up for an account here so that I could complement the *right* person. :-)

  23. City Eyes (46 months ago)

Oh wow, thanks everybody! I've been so busy in the past few days that I wasn't able to respond to all of you.

A huge thank you goes to Starherd. Thanks so much for searching me out! The guy's crazy though. It's clearly marked "All Rights Reserved" which is most certainly not "Free Internet Property". I don't mind if people enjoy and repost my photo, but I would like a link back. Thanks so much for letting me know!

  24. Starherd (46 months ago)

I thought his attitude was a wee bit fishy since the group's got some pro photographers and is pretty clear about getting permission to post in its rules. (read: please don't hold it against the group ;-) )

    Thank you again!

  25. City Eyes (46 months ago)

No way! I'd never hold one person's actions against a whole group. Also, at least he wasn't passing it off as his own or making money off of it. That would've really upset me.

It's hard for non-photographers (or non-artists in general) to understand how upsetting it can be when their stuff is reposted with no credit. They don't find anything wrong with it because they don't know the joy of hearing other people enjoy what they've made.

Wow, I was looking for the author of this image...

  27. City Eyes (45 months ago)

Thanks for letting me know about that. It's insane out fast stuff gets out of control when it's posted to the internet. I really REALLY hate watermarks, but I have no idea what I should do in the future to make sure that the traffic comes back to my site in the end.

  28. onomatoh (45 months ago)

    You're welcome!

Why don't you just put your name on the corner or something?

It bugs me to see so may pieces on the internet that the authors don't put their names on o_O

  29. City Eyes (45 months ago)

Because I'd like to think the best of people and don't want to mess up my photos with a stupid watermark. Most have the common sense to attribute where they got their images. The first weak link seems to be Russian photoblogs and people get images from there without posting attribution.

I don't know, maybe I'll start doing it. They don't take any extra time for me because i can just add them into my workflow, but I really hate doing it.

    love this, very southern post-apocalyptic.

  31. TOWKA (38 months ago)

I'd like to talk about getting permission to use this shot in my book. How do I contact you?

    great find well done

  37. jenniferdk (28 months ago)

Yeah I found my photos actually on someones page on flickr, I was so pissed...they were passing it off as theirs. But I turned them into yahoo and they took care of it. But if you dont mind sharing info on this place, I would love to know a location. I live in NC. If you dont want to share I totally understand.

  38. City Eyes (28 months ago)

That's insane. I don't know what I'd do if I found my photos on somebody else's Flickr (although Urban Remains have been using one of my photos without asking me and they won't get back to my emails.)

  39. ArtfulFairyTales (25 months ago)
