The United States of McDonald. Very funny! Although it's when they start replacing the little white stars with little yellow Ms that your gonna have to start worrying... :)

It is more offensive to see it on your monitor than to see it on every street corner maybe. McDonalds is truly American. If you can't see it in our fat content then surely you are blind. Thanks for the post...

Can't see all the people you speak of that are offended did you post this before somewhere else and get thousands of offended comments. Far as I see, you posted to dozens of groups and barely elicited pffft.
Yeah the two flags are seen together, yeah, taken out of context there is a certain irony and symbolism that can be attributed, but "so many people offended" ,hardly.

This is scary...
I can't remember which German city they were taking about in a documentary I recently saw while visiting Paris...
in any case, there were mentioning that in a city of about 1 million habitants there were only about 48 Gestapo officers. Of course, being so few, the Gestapo officers could not keep an eye on everyone so they relied on the population to report strange behavior or anything that looked suspicious...
Oh do you see how this incident with you posting a simple picture with two flags... has made you "un-American", a "threat" to the American way and susceptible to the criticism of the ones who think YOU are a menace for THEIR country and by pointing you out they are the correct ones and will gain some strange benefit from the American Gestapo...
People are really sinking into the OLD ways without any clues on how THEY are being used to empower the new dictatorship which at any time CAN and is turning against them too!
China forgot Mao's way to destroy the intellectuals, teachers, etc...
America is forgetting is recent past (torture at the hands of CIA by previous administrations... not just THIS one)
The world is forgetting how past dictators got what they want... and this way HISTORY repeats itself because the leaders use what worked in the past and add new TECHNOLOGY, new psychology discoveries to manipulate the innocents.

Haha! One thousand words wouldn't begin to describe this photo. Someone may want it for the cover of a book one day.
Should you flag it 'may offend'?

The United Nations!

Cool pic. As for offending anybody, hey the American flag is higher up than the McDonald's flag, right? And McDonald's is every bit as patriotic as baseball and apple pie ... Why not a McDonald's hot apple pie, eh? :-)

I'm not American; for my part, I find this placement of flags not offensive, but just mildly irritating; not, however, from any feelings about patriotism, nationalism or what have you (since that's not relevant to me as a foreigner with no stake in such debates), but from a vexillological POV - these flags represent two different kinds of, and distinct, separate entities - a nation, and a corporation; a flag above another usually denotes control of what is symbolized in the lower flag, by what is symbolized in the upper flag. Thus, this placement could be misunderstood to mean that the government of the U.S. controls the McDonald's Corporation, which of course it doesn't.
I'm a flag geek; what can I say? ;) They should be on separate flagpoles, side by side!
But I thank you, citron_smurf, for taking this pic, and posting it. It's certainly interesting, and no-one should be offended by someone capturing an image of something that exists! I certainly am not offended by your taking it.
j.twist (41 months ago | reply)
Quite the opposite Will S. The corporations control the government!
Will S. (41 months ago | reply)
Well then; in that case, j.twist, the McDonald's flag should be above the American flag.
Kidding! :)
citron_smurf (41 months ago | reply)
Yea j.twist. WIll is right. If corporations controlled the government then they'd be forcing the government to fork over 100's of billions of taxpayer dollars!
Oops! Oh wait....
