Alesis/Pioneer/Cat5 Hifi Test Run : Etherspeaker by cinemafia.
If you're very confused by what you see here, I don't blame you. These wild speaker cables were hand-made by my brother for my birthday out of standard Cat5 ethernet cable, along with heavy-duty Monster spades on either end and Radio Shack pins for the amp side (speaking of which, pins work surprisingly well with the annoying-as-all-hell 'T' speaker terminals on the backs of these old Pioneers).

Based on Chris VenHaus' design, the idea is basically that you build your own cables from parts costing maybe $50 total (less if you already have gobs of Cat5 laying around) and get the equivalent of audiophile cables that start around $100 a foot. They need a good long break-in time, though, so it's going to be a couple weeks before I really get the heavenly sweetness out of them.

Wow man. Your brother did a great job. He should start selling these on the side.

Funny you should say that, because he actually is! I'm going to help him put together a site and everything.

Thanks, I wish I would have been able to put more use into this setup. Once I got more into photography and less into audio stuff, I sold off the Alesis speakers (which I'd repaired), and the amp & cables are just collecting dust in my garage.
