Deportation memorial on Putlitzbrücke in Berlin, western district Moabit.
Built in 1987 by Volkmar Hase.
From october 1941 till march 1945 trains from all over Berlin (mostly from Anhalter Bahnhof, Friedrichstrasse, sometimes Savignyplatz and Grunewald) arrived here and then went on to transport about 37.000 jews to the ghettos of Lodz or Terezin.
In 1992 there was an attempt to blow it up. Sometime later someone placed several pig heads at this memorial...
... nowadays it's a place where you'll see a lot of rubbish and dogs doing their business.
If you want to know how many germans probably really feel when approaching that part of history (especially if jews are involved) it makes sense to go to Putlitzbrücke.
It's located between residential and industrial area, pretty much in-between. And since it's located on a bridge most people just pass by, naturally.
Other than that, it's not security protected, it's not located in a shiny spot in the center of Berlin.
Take a look!
