Porta Soprana: the two towers – Genoa, Italy
Porta Soprana or Porta di S. Andrea is part of a difensive system of
walls which once ran all around the town and joined, to the
north-west, with Porta dei Vacca or Porta di S. Fede.
Both the so called walls of Barbarossa, whose communication trench is still partly praticable, and Porta Soprana, were built between 1155 and 1158 under the Consulate of Oberto Cancelliere.
The architect of the gate which is the first example of Gothic architecture in town, was a certain Oldino of Asti, helped in his work by Pietro Olderico.
