• Suggested crop - RedMonkeyVirus
  • Do NOT crop as suggested. It is framed perfectly as is with lovely use of negative space. Would love to see a B/W treatment though. - Phil Rose
  • The color of the building against the sky is one of the things that makes this a great image. - chrissuderman
  • I agree, don't crop! - Alain Effe
  • I'd never crop this...one of the things that I love most about this image is the vast negative space that surrounds the building. It's so rare in NY to find so much open space bc everything seems to be sandwiched together.
Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! :)

  • Please, absolutely don't crop. The composition is perfect and the contrast is intriguing. Well done! - Roberto Rocco

thanks everyone! I have to say that I love photographing this building...I was out and about with my camera yesterday (who wasn't?! it was 70 degrees in NYC in January!) so I decided to take some more of this guy. I have so many already in my NYC set. I can't wait until they finish with the construction/clean-up that they're doing and get rid of the scaffolding that is all over it.
    have a great week... :)

everybody likes to shoot the flatiron building, but you have come up with something fresh. This gives it a graceful and almost delicate aspect, as if it is a living thing growing toward the sky. Very well done!

Thanks everyone for your comments and visits. This photo sort of completes a series that I did on this amazing building. It started over the summer and I suppose it will go on forever bc I never tire of it.

Bitacoreta, I had to crop it ever so slightly on the left side bc there is scaffolding on the side of the building that was taking away from the composition. In fact, there has been scaffolding all over this building for a while now...hopefully they will be done soon!

Semi-detached, this is not HDR. I just played with the exposure and the color variations in CS2...and a few other little, fun tricks that I am experimenting with these days. ;-)

I love the composition of this, the building seems to have a "flow" to it, and you captured that very well. Technically, it's also very good. The image is sharp, and the building really stands out from the overcast sky. But at the same time, that is a gripe of mine for eye appeal, the dead space created by have the building that far to the left. I keep wanting there to be something to look at. I don't know what application this could serve as besides a background image for maybe a website. They could put a vertical navigation bar just to the right of the building, that would be cool.

I like the tecnical execution of this image. The composition bothers me a little. . . Maybe a little more to the rule of thirds, with the top of the building just a little lower, and either more of the building in the frame, or less negative space.

This is one of the coolest shots of NYC I have ever seen - it is almost surreal. I have passed this building countless times, and have found myself starting at it, but never have I seen it in this form. Unbelievable shot.
