Payne, E. (1884-1961), olympics gold medal winner, Holy Trinity Church, Cuckfield![]() Ernest "Ernie" Payne (born 23 December 1884 in Worcester, England – died 10 September 1961) was a British track cycling racer. He won a gold medal in the team pursuit at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. He went on to play football, including two games as an amateur for Manchester United F.C.
