介質 | the medium of... by *Solar ikon*.
film, the medium of light and shadow, of eyesight, of opinion, of stories....of mind. that has been used for hundred years.

It dose matter, what kind of medium you used for your storytelling. They are so different between each other.

But in the other way, It doesn't matter at all, if there's no story to tell...

Cool! Very impressive!
Or, it doesn't really matter when you have a really good story to tell.

in the end, it's also the amount of heart and passion put into something. but sometimes, even that is not enough if the story is uninteresting.

i feel now with digital, it's missing the character that film has, so i end up spending more time making my digital look like film.

ya, that's do also..

Most of filmmaker & photographer are trying to make the digital footage more like film, such as, add a "film grain" filter and edge blur a little bit to reduce the sharpness of digital stuff. I don't know if it's right or not, but I do believe that different mediums should have different usage, just like we use different kinds of films to shot different subjects...=)

maybe there's another way to work with digital? After all, digital is the future, isn't it..

agree with Tiac. well, the term « story » is a simplication but that’s it. finally i don’t really care about analog or digital. i need a digitalfor a future project and it’s not really for aesthetic reasons, but for practical ones (the main constraint is.only the price of a good camera !). otherwise, the present and next generation will use digital just as people have used films before. The reference to film is still inevitable but will probably disappear soon, i guess it's always like this with tecnical novelties...

yeah, film has characteristics that are part of what it is...digital is just a clean slate. i don't think one is any better than the other, just different tools. even the film you shoot (short of scanning the negatives yourself) when you print them at the lab, they color correct them (so it depends on who is printing your film). i know people who worked at labs who would correct them the way they wanted too...

even movies shot on film are color corrected by a colorist...scanned at high res.

I don't think it's a matter of right or wrong, if the end result is just as good, that is all that matters.

however, i do feel shooting film, and having a background of shooting film, it is easier to edit digital photos to have those characteristics of film. besides, once a picture is on the computer. it is "digital."

but i do love how passionate you are about film. we all love photography and making images!!!

I agree with you about using the correct medium for the correct subject. Though there is no set rules, it's always nice to see when people tell their stories well by accentuating the characteristics of the medium. I love both digital and analog for different reasons and love the fact that they still co-exist :D

(a) I think your camera always has a story to tell

(b) A lot of directors here in the mainland are debating that issue, too. Sure, DV is easy to shoot with and cheap, but it doesn't produce the same quality of image. Zhang Xianmin and 田壯壯 were both debating this in my class this week.

Beautifully written caption, i definately agree that it's all about capturing the moment. I've become a film enthusiasts and prefer film over digital, but in the end it's all about finding the story and capturing it. I could go on but i'd just be repeating what everyone else has said.

Great photo photo by the way :)

thanks for all the comments here, my friends. :)

There are many and many disputations about film and digital out there. I love them both, but so far, I think film has better quality with cheaper price (some of them)... And it's also a good opportunity to practice image creation with film. to form a personal eyesight. because you'll have to think more by yourself before you taking a picture.

Agree with all of your opinion above, I think we all have the same thought about "story", that's so good. :)
