The Minister's Tree House, Crossville, TN

09/11/12 - Update
The Minister's Tree House has been closed. See the links below for details:

tn.gov/commerce/sfm/documents/SFM-Letter-TheTreehouse.pdf

It's called a tree house, but I disagree with that statement. It's more like a house that swallowed a tree. And a Church. And quite possibly the all the builder's free time for the last 30+ years.

It looked like old barn wood...scraps of all sizes of 2x4's, and pieces of plywood. It was nuts.

  22. me, alexis (44 months ago | reply)

I'd also like to add that this entire thing was nailed together. Having built a few things before (but nothing like an entire house), I don't understand why someone wouldn't use SCREWS. Is it cost?

Kristen, I got explored! There's my 15 seconds of fame. :-)

John, if you're ever in Tennessee let me know and I'll take you to lots of beautiful and incredible places.

Rob, yeah it's kinda crazy. Poppatiller, it's not far for you if you're up for a road trip.

And to shout out to the Reddits out there, yeah, the place creaked like crazy when the wind blew. Other than that it felt pretty stable.

This was the only place where I could get the majority of the tree house into a single shot. This single shot is actually 3 HDR's (total of 9 photos). The seam was a bit difficult to achieve. I used two methods to combine them, the left and middle are combined using the perspective method (planar) and the right one joined to the prior one as an little/no distortion.

Again, this thing's right off I40. Check it out.

I will, and if I travel through Tennessee to get to Maine (where my daughter and grand children live) it is an actual possibility! Thank you so much for the offer.

:: Maja, the church bells are on the right side, at the top. They are made from large compressed gas tanks (if I recall correctly).
