Ho'opi'i Falls Kapaa Kauai
All My Condos in Kauai

Hoopii Falls hike is easily to reach in Kapaa. The hike begins behind one of those yellow trail fences off Kapahi Road. Once you turn North on Kapahi, look left for the yellow rail fence 1/3 mile down on the left. The trail is easy to follow and is easy enough for most people. You have two ways to reach the falls. First follow the trail to the split at the bottom of the hill. If Kapaa Stream isn’t moving too rapidly just desend to the stream and follow the stream path 200 yards to the upper falls. If Kapaa Stream seems to be flowing too rapidly, follow the trail to the right up the hill and it will then fall back down to the falls after 200 yards. The Upper Falls have a nice lava bench to sit on as you take in the surroundings. Hoopii Falls are actually a twin set of falls at the top. We watched as one local jumped off the top from both sides. We could see rocks in the bottom so the jumping should be left to the experienced locals.
To reach the lower falls, go up the hill by the trail leading from the upper falls and take the trail branch down stream (left). It will wind around through a tropical green setting (be sure you brought your bug spray). It will take you 15 minutes to reach the Lower Hoopii Falls. There is no way to get a good picture from the top lava shelf because there is no way to reach the bottom from here but the hike is easy and well worth seeing all the tropical plants. I would estimate the lower falls at 60 feet in height and the upper twin falls at 35 feet.
