I noticed on Lloyd Spencer's photo blog how the same photographs from Flickr look much better on a black background. In fact, it was like seeing them properly for the first time. Inspired, I am now working on a custom stylesheet which turns the whole of Flickr to a black background with grey text. As you can see here from this screenshot, it really does make a difference to the colours of photos.

The code isn't perfect yet (I need to get rid of those white borders and bits of background here and there) but it's a start.

For anyone interested in the method, read this page which tells you how to implement it. Both Opera and Firefox are able to apply styles to one website domain you choose, or others you wish to improve. I'm using Firefox here. My custom styles so far are below. It works! Try it!

Hmm, there's a problem with the pink bar and ticks not showing on the Upload screen. And the map in the Organizr is missing the blue and green circles. I can get round this by not styling those parts of the site, but I'm not sure how. I'll do some more work on this later!

Update: needed to add a second domain for pages beginning with "flickr.com" as opposed to "www.flickr.com".
