Very inteligent, nice composition!

this was my friend meghan's idea. the picture on the card is taken from the same vantage point in the middle of the li river. however, as you can see the two scenes look quite different. the card makes it look like a tropical island! quite funny and such a dramatic difference. :P

You know what.. the light might be different when that was taken.. or.. just playing around with the image in photoshop.. briiiiiiiiiillllllliant shot.. reminds me of the work if the great Duane Michals of a picture within a picture.

I don't think that is how this spot 'used' to be, at least not in the near past... Chinese tourist spots are notorious for photoshopping a blue sky/ water onto postcards.

The city I live in has several great sites, but every postcard I've seen sold has been dramatically altered with PS. Too bad, because it is possible, with some creativity, to get good photos despite the pollution.

Great photo - you REALLY captured an awesome shot. Very REAL!

the card came in a cigarette box. not mine...i don't smoke. i agree with you webel, i don't think this spot has ever looked like the card. PS for sure, and very poorly done photoshopping when i was actually looking at the card up close.

Your title captures my thoughts well.

I was just thinking about the "picture perfect" scenes that we all have seen all over our lives, in travel guides, magazines, and countless other publications. Yet, there always is a timeless beauty, perhaps even more beautiful than those ideal scenes. The experience of traveling is something that is always cannot be captured on film, only in memory.
