Didn't I meet Sedsel at your birthday gig ? - Agent Angelo - Fiji Islands: Of all the places I've lived, it was here I was happiest. - Mikael Colville-Andersen
we wander so much
sometimes i find it bewildering to contemplate how far away i am from the people that i know... (though of course, i am at present time also geographically close to other people that i do know)
it's reassuring sometimes to know that we wander so much, that our influences come from so many places, that we have so many experiences to draw from, so many friends in so many places, but all the same, i can't help but occasionally feel a bit lost and melancholy in all of this movement.
for example, i have three brothers, and none of us live in the same country, and my wife and i come from two different countries, so one of us will always be far away from home (but then again, none of our four parents live in the same country either - that is, two mothers, two fathers: four countries; which sort of makes sense because none of them come from the same country as the other).
we have friends scattered throughout the globe. there's practically a warm place to rest nearly wherever one can take a plane and i feel like the adventure has still just begun. there are so many places that i have not yet seen.
and we wander - and our paths overlap and often cross - and we retrace our footsteps, and we walk in the footsteps of those before us - our friends, our parents - we sometimes repeat the movements of the previous generation, and the generation before that.
but, it can still sometimes be a bit much.
the map is incomplete and not drawn accurately (as far as relative distances are concerned). there's more to add. go ahead and contribute your own note, if you wish.

Very nice map, Svanes. I think I understand the frustration. We all live partly in Flickrtown, but we can´t smell eachothers bad breaths, wipe eachothers tears and help eachother carry that big box up the stairs. Today I can´t seem to light the oven in the studio. Have tried again and again. I wish some of you would come and help. Physical presence will be quite an exclusive commodity in the future, or it is already.
Hm! While I wrote this, the logs caught on fire all by themselves!

thank you all. not that everyone has time to sit around and draw - and i was doing this while working on other (more serious) illustrations - but it's good to doodle... i encourage anyone to pick up the pen and take 30 minutes to do something like this...
beathe - i know what you mean.
guam - good to see that you are tuned in to the essence of kcrw.
reynaud - sankyu.
thanks again, all: preben, colville, urban climber, jeroenjeroen, martin and charlotte.

community is what. when it snows a lot, people give/get more eye contact. neighbors talk to each other. the joy/weirdness/destruction of flying in big metal birds to see each other, we love one another. may everyone without exception be happy and revel in community, whatever that is. what it is.

I looked up the word "wander" because it used to be my password on the internet.Because I loved the music of Walter Wanderley, but thought it too long to use wanderley....Curiously enough there is a set of cafes in Glasgow called Cafe Wander....I went in just because of the coincidence of using the word as a password....Lovely cafe ....
Great drawing.....great idea .......
