Hi, I'm an admin for a group called New Zealand History, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

      Thanks for that info

We have changed the caption - do you know anything about the postcard series?

The photographic style, strength and expertise of hand colouring, and hand written annotation would suggest the work of the Timaru Photographer and landscape watercolourist William Ferrier (1855-1922). William was a cousin of the singer Kathleen Ferrier and Colin McCahon's maternal grandfather.

The Tanner Brothers, of Wellington, with branches at Auckland and London were well known for their postcards from 1904 onwards. Apart from their postcard series, which were printed in Germany in this era, they also published calendars and photographic albums, with tipped in Photogravure plates.

A similar postcard view, showing the trees in front of the library to be the same size, is post dated 11 August, 1903.
