Girl in a heart

A crop a bit like this would keep the heart cut-out and the girl but remove most of the other distracting material. Still needs the area beyond blurring though.

Yep in need of a crop

OK Chris...
Well, the foreground is a little over-exposed and not quite in focus. The girl is in focus and exposed OK. Sadly, the area behind is also in nice sharp focus so is a distraction.

A shallower DoF to keep the girl in focus but throwing the background out would have been better (you could try the blur tool within ps but it won't be as effective).

There's some squiggly stuff around the top and right hand side that I found very distracting - possibly a crop would sort that (suggested above in note).

You could also try sort out the keystoning (where the upper corners converge) and then do the crop - you would get a neater result.

I agree totally with Haysie, you should start with the crop then some post processing to make the girl the centre of your attention. You can either do that with the DoF or through colours, I personally would choose DoF as there isn't enough colours in the girl to make hger stand out if you increased the saturation and made the background B&W.

i think that if you selected the square edge around the heart, then cropped to it that would look ok. then you could fix the converging verticals at the top and blur the area behind the girl. that would look nice. :)

Create an oval selection mask around the middle
Create a selection and feather by 100 pixels
Copy/Paste the selection
Increase exposure and sharpening in the centre layer
Decrease exposure and blur the outer layer
Flatten image - you are done

I do this with some of my images

I think the newly processed version is much better Chris but keeps the humour of the subject.

Hey there! Great to meet the person that makes these things. A lot of sculpture goes straight over my head - as seen from some of the comments I have on the ones that I took at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. But I really liked this one. A real fun feeling to it and put a smile on my face!

Good work!
