There's the most interesting light that hits the east side of Manhattan around 9 am. It's a direct contrasted light that produces strong shadows. I created a filter in photoshop that reproduces the effects of cross-processing technique known as E6. Why is it called E6? I'm not sure. Something to do with the chemicals they used on film. This process yields greater contrast, color shift and strong saturation. It works well with sunny urban scenes such as the one above. This shot was also taken with a 5MP Iphone camera.

As I continue my filter creation in photoshop, I've started experimenting with some vintage-like shots. The above photo emulates an actual 'light leak' on film. This interesting result happens when light finds its way onto film while still in the camera. Although not intended, these light leaks evoke a dreamy, nostalgic feel to a photo. I love it.

I've been working on creating filters in Photoshop lately. What does that mean? I have been combining my different processing techniques into a one click process. It's not easy. In order to do this, the process has to work on a variety of different types of photographs - landscapes, portraits, daytime, etc. Above is an example of a photograph, taken on my iphone, where I applied one of my more vibrant filters. I'll include the before and after in the post in my blog. The end result is really cool.

The shot above is of the Teton Mountain in western Wyoming. This iconic shot has been taken by at least a million people.

I haven't posted in a while because I've been extremely busy at work. For the last year and a half I've been working on an idea. The idea stems from my experience in photography and my extensive travel around the world. Slowly, the idea turned into a business plan. The business plan eventually turned into raising some money and last month it turned into a team of amazing people, a new company, and a cool office in Soho. I can finally say it's going to happen. I'll have more details in the next few months.

I was walking home the other night and I saw this on the sidewalk in New York City's East Village. Everyone should hang it above their desk.

The Iphone has opened up a world of new and interesting ways to get creative with photos. I've really enjoyed the panoramic stitch programs that allow you create, on the spot, wonderful wide angle shots. The photo was taken with the Iphone app called AutoStitch. The Iphone camera has the equivalent of a 35mm lens. Generally, you want to take a panoramic shot at 50mm or higher to avoid distortion, but I've taken successful panos at focal lengths below 35mm. The shot above was taken with 5 vertical shots. It's hard to capture people because of the movement, however if you're quick enough and space your shot outs correctly you can manage to capture people. I love how this photo tells a story. Instead of focusing in on one thing or person, your eye wanders throughout the photo.
