TG 2009 - CC initial preps set-up by Chris_Carter_.
This is what I've been using in the studio for the TG 2009 preps (rhythms and live performance parts). The problem is (due budget contraints) we are traveling 'light' on this tour: minimal crew, no tour buses, no gear trucks etc. just airline flights and cabs. This means all my gear has to fit into a flight case and a carry-on bag. So, as much as I'd like to, I can't take everything in this photo on the tour.
On the top shelf: my Roland JP8080 and Korg ER1 definitely won't be going (but will be sampled onto my laptop). On the bottom shelf: all will probably be going except (sadly) the two larger Kaoss Pads.

Nice set-up Chris. You should have no problems with customs as long as you don't mind getting everything out of your hand luggage every time like we have to.

I used to have one of those er-1's...man I loved it for the design & the amount of sounds you could get out of one box.

no nanoloop? I love me some nanoloops beets....

I keep intending to do some jam sessions w/ only battery powered instruments & toys (no laptops allowed). Battery Powered Orchestra?

Customs has never been much of a problem for me The big problems (EVERY time) are with security. Apart from the obvious (under x-ray they all look like components for a b*mb or a det*nator ) something in my set-up has triggered the semt*x detectors the last 2-3 times I traveled by air. It's a major headache unpacking/packing that lot, and quite stressful when they demanding that I "step away from the bag sir" rather forcefully!

Nice gear! I'm surprised to see so much of the toys that i've been using on your desk too -- i'm considering writing an album solely with the ds-10...

I travel with one of these:

www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/388345-REG/Pel ican_PC1564B...

Just throw everything in it except your laptop and you avoid lots of hassle. Check it and forget it. If it shows up, it shows up. Then you just roll onto the hotel and then the stage.

I've got it down to 3 pieces of luggage.
1. Rolling Pelican case with foam cushion for gear.
Checkable
2. Rolling backpack suitcase with clothes and more cables and such. Checkable
3. Backpack with laptop and harddisc. If the checked luggage vanishes you can always just use the laptop and wing it.
Carry on

Problem with that Fred is the 8kgs it weighs, empty!!! You only get 10kgs limit in Europe.

We use these:

I travel with a laptop bag and I use the (smaller) Pelicase 1510. Often I can get away with carrying the Pelicase on as hand luggage in Europe (always to the US). But if a Euro budget airline such as RyanAir insist on weighing it, it's still quite heavy even tho it's smaller and it has to go in the hold my stuff is a lot more protected than a regular case.
