"iLight Marina Bay" Marina Bay Sands, Singapore 2012

"iLight Marina Bay" Marina Bay Sands, Singapore 2012

Glad we made it on the last day of the i Light Marina Bay 2012. The light installation, Garden of Light is a projection on the surface of the ArtScience Museum incorporating a variety of light and sound effects to tell a story about environmental sustainability and highlight the beauty of the natural world.

This certainly provides a refreshing view to the already iconic architecture at the Marina Bay Sands.

"Reflections by the Bay I" Marina Bay East, Singapore 2012

The domed conservatory complexes located just by the bay edge of the Marine Channel presents a spectacular view from across the Marina Channel. These conservatories will house a diverse spectrum of temperate plants from Mediterranean and Tropical Montane regions and they are located at the heart of the largest of the three gardens (Bay South) that makes up the 101 hectare Gardens by the Bay.

"Bidadari" Singapore 2012

"Bidadari" Singapore 2012

This green oasis was once a sprawling multi-religious burial ground opened on 1 January 1908 known as Bidadari Cemetery. It was located at the junction of Upper Serangoon Road and Upper Aljunied road, and derived its name from the wife of Maharaja Abu Bakar of Johor, whose istana had once stood there. It is now defunct, having been officially closed in 1973 and all the tombs within exhumed by 2006. This place have become a popular recreation area of sorts for leisurely strolls or trail runs by residents staying in neighboring private and public housing estates, as well as the Gurkha contingent and their families staying nearby.

Unfortunately, it will not be long before this place becomes part of our collective memory as it makes way for new urban development and living space, going the way of the much higher profile Bukit Brown cemetery as our tiny nation state grapples with the challenges of a rapidly growing population.
