Rufus (junk blacked out to protect the neutered) got a bunch of stinging gnat (mayfly) bites on Sunday. I saw all those red rings on his belly and panicked that this was some messed up variant of Lyme disease or ringworm. He didn't seem bothered by it, but that's just like him.
Today, the vet (we had a Lyme vax appt.) reassured me that it's that time of the year for mayflies, esp. since Rufus had been out to the park earlier that day.
(Note: these are not technically mayfly bites, since mayflies don't have mouths, but that's the common term for this stuff)

Thank god you put this funny pic up. I just got a pup last wk. He's a 9 wk old dachshund, he's got one of those round bites. I about died when I saw it, also thinking of lyme off the bat. He's had the vacc though, and the bite is starting to fade already. Definately a mayfly bite
