The Delivery Man

In a certain light he looked like Elvis
In a certain way he feels like Jesus
Everyone dreams of him just as they can
But he's only the humble Delivery Man

-- Elvis Costello, The Delivery Man

My character doesn't quite fit EC's portrayal of The Delivery Man, but I love the song and I'm intrigued by the idea of the outsider looking in. The song was the source for the title, but the image really had nothing to do with it. At least on a conscious level.

I think this character is turning into my alter ego.

great light and shadows. I like how the cracks in the road mimic the tree branches

      Nicely moody scene Eric!

hard to explain, but there's something about the man's... solidity, density, in the face of the long road into increasing disapation... and I love that the two lines seem to be either holding him up, or restraining him

wonderful storytelling... just enough there, but plenty of room for the viewer's own imagination too

Sort of a nostalgia shot ... the vignetting draws the eyes into what the man is looking at down the road. Nice work.

Oh hell this is great. Mysterious and an almost archetypal image.

Yeah, I recognize this dude. He doesn't seem to ever know which way to go-- right or left. But he has a wonderful way of getting us to reflect on his choices, his story, .....his cracked, foggy, noir way.
      What's he deliver?? mysteries?

    36. _marmota (50 months ago | reply)

Thank you everyone for your kind words, faves, invites, and mostly your insight and interpretations (I'm a firm believer in the value of the beholder's share). It's all very much appreciated.

I love your read of this image! Got me thinking a little bit more about the symbolic journey..things that hold us or pull us along.

I'll take archetypal over cliche any day. Not sure I've quite made that leap from one to the other, but I am hopeful I will get there some day.

future noir...shoulda woulda coulda for a title (I struggle mightily for titles that tell a story). Just might be used on his next appearance.

that, my friend, is the true mystery. Left entirely to one's own interpretation. I think I know what it means to me but we all get to weave our own story out of the fragments.

      you get to choose. ;-)
