Pritzker Looms![]() ![]() I have been trying to work on pictures that tell stories in their own right. This is an attempt to capture a sense of the impending inevitibility of the Children's Museum march to Grant Park. I am opposed to this move. I recommended the former Carson Pirie Scott building on State Street as an acceptable alternative to Grant Park. I believe 600,000 square feet of space in this new Sullivan Center leaves quite a bit of room for a museum for children. And it does not take public lands and give them to private enterprise.
At the same time, I am a fan of Frank Gehry's work in general and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in specific. I like the exploding bandshell and the stainless steel. My goal with this picture was to attempt to capture a bit of that inner emotional conflict. CommentsWould you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |

I am in complete agreement regarding the children's museum. Generally, I am supportive of Daley's "get it done" attitude toward city improvement, but this is not a case of bureaucracy getting in the way of progress. He just doesn't seem to get that his vision is not widely shared. Now that I'm off my soap box--very nice shot. I think you have captured some of the conflict you refer to. I think lightening the pavilion, however, would give it more power.
