Pinch-Pot Ball Whistle

Porcelain pinch-pots bowls were combined to make this globe-like whistle. I intended to drill finger holes so that it was more flute-like, but discovered that the shape lent itself to hard burnishing to a nice sheen.

The green ware piece is roughly 4" in diameter with very thin walls. We'll have to see if this has possibilities as a suspended Christmas tree ornament,,,obviously, weight might determine the practicality.

This is brilliant in its simple form Paul. I love that it started as a pinch pot. The lowly pinch pot elevated to horn-like status.

      :)

Love the finger hole too! Now I have to try encorporating one into one of my crazy noise makers.

I am not wanting to venture too away from pinch-pot and hand construction (for now)...'still considering how students who have never engaged clay could see positive results in the fastest way possible. The idea of creating a "Ten Minute Whistle" video to introduce students to musical instrument construction intrigues me.

I am still getting used to porcelain's idiosyncrasies..and starting to really like what can be done with very small amounts of clay.

I love the idea of the video! You would certainly be the best one to create such a tutorial. And some videos of you playing your whistles and flutes would be nice too.
