We know one kind of dhal in Trinidad - yellow split peas. Boil with garlic and peppers, and other seasonings until soft. Blend, or smash with a dhal ghutney until it is a thick liquid, then chunkay with garlic and geera (deep fry sliced garlic and cumin seeds until brown/black and add to dhal).

Eat as a soup, serve with rice or roti and curry.
