There was a big storm that night in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.
3 people died, hundreds of trees broken by the wind, many major
avenues flooded.
I've been waiting for a storm like this and trying to capture lightning for a long time!
Several people suggested a cropped version of the original, so here it is.
The yellow building is a famous hotel called The Royal Palm Plaza, near my home.
1st place in the DIFFICULT PICTURE TO TAKE contest in Winner's Circle.
1st place in the LOUD contest in Winner's Circle.

I still like more the original, the huge dark cloud add some drama, and you can see lightning all over the photo.
This one hit the lightning rod of a mobile phone antenna.
Notice the hotel Royal Palm Plaza on the left also with some lightning.

Togheter, the 2 photos above were published 4 times this day, in 3 different newspapers and also shown on TV!
This one doesn't look as good as the other two... but was a big strike too!

Eu tive a oportunidade de fotografar um raio deste tipo tbm, bem de perto, é algo assustador, os raios normais são do tamanho daqueles pequenos que tem na mesmo foto certo, esta ai foi daqueles que tremem tudo imagino...
