Hmm...I love peanut butter and I love bacon, but...um...

Well, pork goes well with Szechuan sauce (peanut), so it might work! I'm intrigued...

The peanut butter and the bacon doesn't sound like a terrible combo, but including mayo AND relish (either would be bad enough with this)...ugh.

Possibly I'm less familiar with this BHG cookbook of the time because these were the years I was allergic to wheat, or at least appeared to be. Those allergy shots and drops don't seem so bad now compared to the possibility of facing THIS in my lunch bag!

For pity's sake, put the top slice of bread on the sandwich as quickly as possible if you don't want to turn people's stomachs. That looks truly grim.

~ Liberty Images: ... Who knew they would look so awful together?

Will S.: Sorry, you can't sell me on this one! It just looks so WRONG!

mod as hell: And don't forget the chopped tomato and minced onion! Clearly that is a recipe for disaster.

Yes, perhaps you intuited that this sandwich existed somewhere in the world and your body just revolted!

Dubris: Isn't it shocking? How could this one pass editorial and make it into a book?

peanutty baconwich? um, how about no.

oh and note the author's recommendation to "serve it on tomato-cheese bread"...as if it couldn't get any more revolting!

Actually, an old family comfort food is a BLT with avocado and peanut butter. I limit myself to once a year, lest my arteries shatter.

e_s_prose: I know! Just when you think it couldn't get worse ... it does!

Era: '51: That does sound like a recipe best kept from those with heart problems! Next time, try it with some pickle relish!

Odd mixture. What will they think of next...

This is one of those recipes for the wife to give to the husband for work when she's mad at him. Haha.

That is one un-appetizing-looking sandwich. Where's a food stylist when you need it?

  12. Charm and Poise (37 months ago | reply)

MsBlueSky: It's frightening to think of innovations beyond this level!

TheUnrequitedTV: Don't you love my bacon and peanut butter sandwich, darling?

Smaddy: I think all the food stylists were fired due to cost issues. Sue from accounting took over.

    Someone should sue Sue.

This is amazing! I'm reminded of Jim Gaffigan's bacon joke in his new DVD "King Baby." Bippity boppity bacon! Makes everything...better?

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Wartime Punch! (Vintage Recipes in Advertising), and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I can't imagine that bacon combined with peanut butter, tomato, and onion could ever make anything better ... but perhaps I should work on keeping an open mind?

    "Brown Baggers" just sounds sleezy.

I picture a middle aged dude in a trenchcoat , all preverted and stuff.

He has a pocketful of barf sandwiches .

And yet he can never figure out why he fails every time he goes out to expose himself ...
