Sunset at Royd Moor Wind Farm

Sunset at Royd Moor Wind Farm by Charles Cook.
From Wikipedia:

The Royd Moor Wind Farm windfarm is located at Penistone, South Yorkshire and consists of thirteen 500 kW turbines. The site is located approximately 6 km north west of Penistone, above the A616 trunk road between Sheffield and Manchester. The turbines are set in two parallel, staggered rows of six and seven, on a ridge in hilly fell land lying 320 m above sea level.

The turbines were completed in 1993 and are 35m in height to the hub and have a rotor diameter of 37m. The maximum output is 6.5 MW, equivalent to the annual energy required to power 3300 homes.

I like the pinkt and blue sky, and the windmills are appropriately surreal in the landscape.

I was driving home when I saw the wind farm lit up on the skyline. Normally the turbines are pretty boring to look at but at this moment, when most of them were facing the setting sun, there was something special about their appearance. I got there only a minute or so before the sun set on them so I had hardly any time to take photos.

Excellent photo! The composition is perfect as well as the color in the sky and light on the windmills. Good job!

Charles I may end up disliking you (just kidding), because
I have long had it in mind to photograph these fellows, but you have made my results inferior before I begin.
Great shot.

waronwind.org Wind is a waste of resources. It doesn't add power to the grid because the power it provides fluctuates. So it just puts power plants on standby, still burning there fuel just waiting for the wind to stop blowing.

Drivel... the source fuel is free and maintenance is low cost, wind farms in different locales or different orientations operate at different times so power from some of them is being added to the grid at all times, and your arguments would only make sense if wind was promoted as a one-source solution to energy needs. To argue that is either disingenuous or deeply stupid.
And btw -- learn the difference between there and their.
