It really did. After I lost my shit I ran and
got the camera, but it was seriously all I
could do to be in the same room with it.
Especially after I realized that I'd probably
been SLEEPING WITH IT ALL NIGHT.

How does something this big get INSIDE? My
mom told me that we're having a big
"cricket year", and the spiders
come inside to get the crickets. I don't
think that's the case here. I think this one
came in to eat our dog. And to get some of my
jewelry.

The question you need to be asking yourself:
where did it lay its eggs?

I can't even tell you how long I laid awake
last night, thinking about exactly that.

Also: that was my question, too. How the hell
did the spider get *into* the bedroom? I
don't recall seeing any 5-foot-wide cracks
anywhere when I was moving in.
What happened to your spider, btw? Did
Randy kill it?

He did kill it, yes. Or at least he SAID he
killed it. I refused to watch. And then we
had this whole, "Did you flush it? Or
just throw it?" conversation in which he
refused to give me straight answer. I mean,
OBVIOUSLY if he "threw it", the
spider is still alive and crawling around my
bathroom as we speak.

And breeding. And plotting its revenge, as
indignant spiders are wont to do. At least,
I'm pretty sure that's what my spider has
been doing these last 6 months.

Is this pre-killing? Because it's all folded
up, like a transformer spider. It's probably
twice that size once it starts jumping.

BTW, I think it is a Huntsman Spider (or
sometimes called a Banana Spider). They are
harmless. Scary, but harmless. (don't click on this link if you don't want to
see more spiders)

Common Names: Huntsman Spider, Housekeeping
Spider, Banana Spider
banana spider? that thing looks a lot more
threatening than anything that should be
referred to as a "banana spider".
or maybe that's just how it kills people...
finds a banana, eats it, then leaves the peel
randomly lying around for people to slip,
fall, and die on.

This was pre-killing, yes, and that was my
biggest fear-- that Randy would try to kill
it and it would leap into his mouth. Those
pictures are dead on, too. And that makes me
happy because all the pictures I looked at were like "Death Mongrel Skin
Eater" spider.
Although I really like erica's "peel
flinger" idea.

also, i'm pretty sure this is a brown
huntsman spider. you can read more here and here

Oh my God.
It is (was) a Huntsman. There's a picture
on the Wiki page that matches it completely.
And that explains why it didn't have a web...
AND it backs up my mother's
"cricket" theory.
I haven't slept in 48 hours.

are there a lot of roaches where you are?
cause i read somewhere that they LOVE roaches
too.
and don't think your car is any safer than
your home... "Huntsman spiders of many species
sometimes enter houses. They are also
notorious for entering cars, and being found
hiding behind sun visors or running across
the dashboard."
yeah... just fyi.

We don't really seem to have any roaches.
Occasionally I'll see a small one outside,
and I guess I just thought that Terminex was
doing its job. Little did I know that we have
A BILLION Huntsman spiders out there working
on commission.
And Erica, if I find one of those goddamned
things behind my sun visor, I'm sending it to
you in a box with airholes in the lid. Just
as soon as I get out of the hospital.

well, halloween is coming up... if all else
fails, i'll let it loose on my front porch on
halloween night and wait for it to devour the
trick-or-treaters whole.
maybe i'll get lucky and some kid will
dress up as a cricket.

holy fuck. Erin, do you want to come live
with me until this thing DIES of natural
causes, in like probably 20 years? Our
"big" spiders are the size of like
maybe a pea with some icky legs - totally
something that the cat could eat if it
actually got in the house.
I have the creepy crawlies now.

I just saw this right this second and OH MY
GOD WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE WARN ME?!? I did not
know that creatures like this existed.
Everyone, run! Seriously.
Also, I just started to itch all over and I
think I need to shower. But I will be
showering with a weapon of some kind. I think
that THING knows where I live. Where WE ALL
LIVE! Ahhhhhhhh!

You know, I was just in Arizona, Chandler to
be specific. Staying with a relative, and it
was more like being in a refugee camp. I
wouldn't be surprised if one of these things
slept on my guest bed all night and I thought
it was a cat. I can't even tell you how
scared I am just from seeing this photo.

Actually, I've been thinking about this since
last week. I think Hunstmen spiders are
common in Australia, not the US. This might
be a good old fashioned Wolf Spider. Have no
fear about them laying eggs in your house,
they carry their eggs and their young on
their backs! Not pretty.

lowlevelrebel:
YES
Erin, I used to have these when I lived in
Florida. They would come in under the door
(don't ask me how) and camp out in the middle
of the living room carpet. It got to the
point where my feet would never touch the
ground at night because that's when they
would come in. Isabel was a baby then and god
help her if she woke up at night wanting fed.
Oh and I learned when not to smash them
(large body) because that was when they were
carrying their babies. You haven't known
terror until you whack one of these suckers
and 400,000,000 of the babies fly in every
direction. I didn't sleep for 2 years while I
lived there.
