Burnside Bridge, Antietam CreekThe lower of three bridges over Antietam Creek on September 17, 1862. The site of a major battle when Gen. Ambrose Burnside, USA, ordered his command of approx. 12,000 men across the bridge as part of an attempted coordinated attack on Rebel positions. Numerous attempts to cross at this choke point were repulsed by concentrated fire from 450-500 men of the Second and Twentieth Georgia on the bluff commanding the scene. October 27, 2009.
