The title of this image comes from a conversation I had with my mother about the ability to see things differently, as a photographer.

She didn't see anything special in these rocks, and why would she? The compositional elements, the sky and the background all seemed fairly mundane. It was the ability, she said, to visualise how the water was going to move when it wrapped itself around the rocks and pulled back into the ocean, that made her realise what I saw - not quite in the same way, but that to recognise the movements and remember them, to time them correctly and to have the right angle. Either way, I see like this, to imagine is to be alive, to create is to live, to stop, would be death.

Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park, QLD

Over the past week, Queensland has received alot of rain due to some unique weather conditions combining together. The region has received over 500mm in one week... completely unprecedented totals which has seen all creeks and waterfalls in the area activate like crazy. Natural arch, the most well known of all of these, was in full roar. I simply cannot describe the sounds coming from this beauty as the water spilled endlessly through the arch into the stream below. Waterfalls I've never seen before appeared on distant mountain peaks and normally quiet rocky corners turned into small falls themselves. You can compare this shot to the one two images below - I was only there a few weeks ago. Couldn't resist the urge to go back and document it!

Wineglass Bay, TAS

I took this on my Tasmania trip last year (october) when the weather at Wineglass bay had been near-idyllic. I knew this wasn't going to last long, and lo and behold, some strange clouds arrived and we knew we had to go. The halo around the sun wasn't all that subtle, but few seemed to notice. (because after all, who's keen to look at the sun?!) Nevertheless, it proved to be a very good candidate for some harsh black and white treatment.

Natural Arch, QLD

Taken yesterday on a photographic outing to the coast to help a very good friend learn her camera. Weather conditions were perfect for waterfalls, and we spend some decent amount of time moving about the streams as the rain sprinkled down above us.

Natural Arch (or Natural Bridge to others) is probably one of the most photographed waterfalls in Queensland. It's short walk and easy accessibility make it a favourite with tourists and locals alike.

I have been going through a bit of a Silver Efex Pro2 phase at the moment, I have been trying to re-edit most of my older images to draw out new detail. It's a hugely satisfying thing to do, as I can tell how my processing skills have improved over the years to create these now-stunning works of which I am just in awe over. I could not have timed this one more perfectly, and the processing of it has come down to a fine art of avoiding highlight clipping and too much detail enhancement. But overall, I think it works, at the very least, it is entrancing!
