pencils

Been awhile since I took anything just for the sake of it so i went hunting for something lying around the house to try and make it more interesting.

strobist: pencils standing on paper on a glass table 550ex at 1/128th power shot from below 580ex camera left into small umbrella for fill on the the pencil tips at 1/32 power

no post processing done except the border and copyright

Interesting way to combine DOF and light origin... :) With a little imagination, the blowout on the glass could be rocketflares!

this looks awesome, did you try a few different arrangements as well? if you want a rounder highlight on the table, you can use a cardboard gobo with a round hole.

Thanks guys... I'm so glad other people mentioned the rocket thing as that was the original idea... and it also proves that I'm not crazy if other people are thinking the same thing right? lol

Lizard spd I tried one other arrangement with less pencils as i wasn't entirely sure if the hotspot would be big enough to accomodate more. I've started to get into that mind frame where I have an image in my head so this shoot literally took me 5 minutes to set up shoot and then stick up on flickr.

not sure what happened to all the other comments from earlier i think the browser at work was really screwing around so if you comment dissappeared I'm really sorry!

Thats such a strange perspective. Can you tell me what your focal length on this was?

    32. GarethDix (46 months ago | reply)

it was about 20mm on a crop sensor so about 30mm FF... i was up close to get the distortion though
