Payson Park Composite BW 5044

Payson Park Composite BW 5044

I went to Portland's Payson Park yesterday afternoon (1/20/2012) and took a bunch of shots of the guys that were there snowboarding. It was such a beautiful day and it was so much fun catching shots of the jumps. Thanks to all of the guys for letting me take pictures! This one was converted to monochrome using Topaz's black & white plugin filter.

Spring Point Ledge Light, December 2011 Vertical

Spring Point Ledge Light, December 2011 Vertical

Looks like I'm going back to my roots these days. The other day, after a night of heavy rain and winds, the skies were particularly beautiful with masses of clouds that kept moving across the sky. I thought it might make for a dramatic sunset. I drove to South Portland with the intention of continuing on to Cape Elizabeth and taking more pictures of Portland Head Light, but as I have never taken a picture I was really satisfied with of Spring Point Ledge Light, I thought I'd give it a whirl.

I love the sky here--it really was such a stunning sunset. Just a few moments after this, the gusts of wind became so intense that my hat kept blowing off my head and my 12 pound, super-sturdy tripod couldn't keep my camera steady enough not to induce motion blur at 1/3 sec, so I gave up went home, not staying for twilight, as I had planned.

Twilight WAS very beautiful that night, but extremely gusty, so probably a good thing that I left!

Hammer Coral Opening time-lapse videoPlay Video

Hammer Coral Opening time-lapse video

I think this is something like 150 jpegs, put together at .05 sec a piece--kind of choppy, but it's just quite cool to watch the corals in my husband's micro reef tank open up when the lights come on each morning. They even change color as they become fuller. A little bit of natural magic. . .

Infrared Skater

Infrared Skater

This is not a new photo--I took it back on May 13, 2011. But it is such a gloomy, rainy day, and I was feeling like doing something with photography, so I experimented with punchy black and white conversions and gave him the infrared treatment (sounds painful, doesn't it? But I don't think he noticed. . .) It makes me excited for snow now, so I can get back to the ski slopes with my camera and my ultrawide lens and start experimenting again. . . Hmmmm. . . ;-)
