Rolls-Royce Merlin 224 (Engine No. 2)

The rather large 33-foot bomb bay of CWH's Avro Lancaster X. The bomber could carry a maximum of 18,000 pounds of ordnance (or a single 22,000 pound "Grand Slam" bomb, if modified into the B I [Special] configuration).

The loadout would naturally depend upon the target, but a more typical payload for a nighttime bombing raid would be a "Cookie" (a large 4,000, 8,000 or 12,000 lb. high-capacity conventional bomb) and several bundles of small incendiary bombs.

The conical objects resting below the bay are the aerodynamic nose cones that fit over each engine's propeller assembly.
