Light

Light

A single calla against a heavily overcast sky, white on white, pure light and simplicity. I created this for an assignment in the "Beyond Layers" online experience at Kim Klassen Café. The goal was to create a photo around a theme of a single word, mood or thought, and I chose "light." Birth of an angel's trumpet

Birth of an angel's trumpet

The opening buds of angel’s trumpet blossoms are wonderful photographic subjects. The petal parts that will become “wings” typically start out in fanciful curled formations. This is a classic example. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO 400, filtered morning sun, handheld) Background texture from Leslie Nicole's French Kiss Textures.

Droplets on green goddess calla

Droplets on green goddess calla

This is a variety of calla lily known as "Green Goddess" for the bloom's green coloring on the outside. The tip of the flower, not visible here, also has green markings on the inside. I liked this one for the way it was decorated with water droplets. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/125 sec., ISO 200, overcast, handheld)

Bold anemone

Bold anemone

A bright red anemone, happily greeting the morning sun after the rain. I was shooting with a zoom rather than my macro lens to stay out of the wet soil in the flowerbed. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 300mm, f/6.3, 1/320 sec., ISO 320, morning sun, handheld)

Old-fashioned

Old-fashioned

A single stalk of delphinium blooms, bathing in the morning sun that had just peeked out from behind the clouds after a bit of rain. I avoided making muddy footprints by swapping my macro lens for a zoom, and the bonus was very soft bokeh. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 277mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec., ISO 200, morning sun, handheld). Texture courtesy of Kim Klassen Café
