Riddle of the Ice Sphinx - Ice Dreams 16/23

Assume a glass of water containing an ice cube, mark the water level, once it has melted, mark the new level. Will the new level be above, below or the same as the first mark?

Answer: The same, as a floating object displaces its own weight of fluid. Thank you Archimedes.

Assume the glass to be the oceans of the planet and the ice cube Earth's poles, glaciers etc. What will the impact of global warming be?

Prenons un verre d’eau contenant un glaçon et marquons le niveau de l’eau. Une fois le glaçon fondu, marquons de nouveau le niveau de l’eau. Le nouveau niveau sera-t-il supérieur, inferieur ou identique au précèdent ?

Réponse : Identique, car tout corps flottant déplace un volume en eau égal a son poids. Merci Archimède !

Supposons maintenant que ce verre d’eau soit les océans de la planète et ce cube de glace soit les pôles, les glaciers et toute la glace terrestre flottante ou non. Quel sera l’impact d’un réchauffement climatique ?

Riders of the Storm - Ice Dreams 15/23

It is their last hour, it is their last battle. The riders of the apocalypse approach with hungry fury, and as they retreat, our ice monoliths will fulfill their destiny.

All is not lost, as first light breaks, they will unite with their sister element and travel across the seven seas.

C’est leur dernière heure, leur dernière bataille. D’un appétit destructeur, les chevaliers de l’apocalypse s’approchent et dans leur reflux, nos monolithes de glace s’en vont accomplir leur destin.

Tout n’est pas perdu, les premières lueurs pointent, ils vont s’unir à leurs frères liquides et traverser les sept mers.

The Dreaming of the Crab - Ice Dreams 14/23

There was a time when nothing existed, not even the stars. Twas the time of the Dreaming.

The totemic spirit of a crab emerges into the light from the depths of a primeval ocean carrying a few grains of mud, and with it the promise of Creation. And so the world came to be.

The myth of the Earth Diver is shared across time and cultures, a preeminent allegory of cosmogony.

Il fut un temps où rien n'existait, pas même les étoiles. C'était « le temps du Rêve ».

L'esprit totémique du crabe surgit des profondeurs d'un océan originel à la lumière. Il porte sur lui quelques fragments de terre et en lui l’espoir de la Création. Et ainsi naquit le monde.

Le mythe du « Plongeur Originel » est une allégorie prééminente de la cosmogonie.

Frappuccino Morning - Ice Dreams 13/23

The feeling of cool air on one's face and ocean spray, after the element of surprise, can prove incredibly fresh and rejuvenating, especially on a glorious morning. Delicious milky waves were roaring as the light illuminated these sugar-glazed bergs. The thought of breakfast occurred and all I could dream about was a warm cappuccino.

Une fois l’effet de surprise passé, la sensation d’air frais et de bruine océanique sur le visage s’avère être incroyablement vivifiante, tout particulièrement lors d’un matin glorieux. De délicieuses vagues laiteuses déferlaient tandis que la lumière transperçait ces morceaux de sucre glace. La pensée d’un bon petit déjeuner émergea, et je ne rêvais que d’une seule chose, un bon capuccino fumant.
