Third Order Fresnel Lens

Third Order Fresnel Lens by cedarkayak.
The South Manitou Island Lighthouse is lit by a single 100 watt compact fluorescent household light bulb. Due to the focusing power of the third order fresnel lens, I could lay inside my tent a mile away, and see shadows created by the beam of light.

That's pretty impressive! Maybe I need one of these for my living room to make better use of the compact fluorescents in my lamps.

hey nasunto, I think this one cost something like $80k, not real suitable for your basic living room. but CFL's are a good idea :)

I've always wondered what the lights looked like up close. I had no idea how advanced they were but then again they would have to be to shine as they do. Very interesting.
