Sanctity of Life in the Philippines |
ALL LIFE IS SACRED …. Declared in the
Philippines
The Cathedral of the King, Territory of
Asia and all its Dioceses in the
Philippines celebrated the Sanctity of
Life Sunday last January 25 amidst a
passionate declaration that all life is
sacred. It was a wonderful and awesome
proclamation that was highlighted by its
strong Sunday faithful who came in
black T-shirts with the words, “All Life
is SACRED…CEC4Life” printed in white.
In the Cathedral of the King,
elderly, adult, and child gathered for
the 9:00 AM Eucharistic celebration
which is televised weekly all over the
nation and in many parts of North
America.
“The church must speak up on this
issue,” says Archbishop Loren T. Hines,
DD, Primate for the territory of Asia,
ICCEC. “God is the giver of life, He
alone has absolute dominion over human
life, and over the process by which it
comes into being. The Church has the
responsibility and obligation to
proclaim to all the earth the sanctity
of human life, the dignity of human
life, and the respect that should be
given to it.”
Leading the congregation in this
proclamation, the Primate, together with
about 50 clergymen of the Cathedral,
slipped out of their liturgical
vestments and into identical black
T-shirts after the mass to gather
outside the church building. Spread
over the 50-meter (160 feet) wall of the
Cathedral was a huge poster printed with
identical wordings about the sanctity of
life. Traffic was halted as the clergy
and faithful posed before the giant
streamer.
Babies were baptized not only in the
Cathedral but also in other parishes, as
an affirmation that their lives belong
to God. Pregnant women, new-born babies
and toddlers were anointed with holy
oil in one parish while in another, the
youth went out to distributed tracks
around their community declaring the
Sanctity of Life.
As of this writing, plans are being
finalized to install two giant
streamers, one on the Manila North
Expressway and the other on the Manila
South Expressway. It is the
Archbishop’s desire to surround the
whole city with this proclamation, even
as Congress prepares to deliberate on
the Reproductive Health bill, a ploy
that aims to legalize abortion in the
country. It is the church’s stand that
no government has the right to demean
the sanctity of life.
Now that God’s church has made its
stance in defense of life, particularly
of the innocent unborn children,
judgment can commence.
