Sunset

Taken while on vacation at Salisbury beach in May 2013.

The sun has literally set on Hasselblad "V" series cameras, as Hasselblad recently announced they are no longer producing V series film cameras.

This saddens me deeply. The V series have always been the Rolls Royce of film cameras, and the concept that Hasselblad no longer builds or supports these cameras is mystifying.

Upgrade

Upgrade

After many years of squirreling away money, I've finally upgraded DSLR's from my Canon 5D to a (lightly) used Canon 5D Mark II.

Not that there was anything wrong with my 5D - it has been my workhorse camera since I purchased it in 2006, and I love it to death, but I wanted something with a little more *oomph!* should I need it and I did want to dabble with the HD video function. I believe this should be it as far as DSLR upgrades for me. My next squirreling away project will be to find a medium format digital back for my Hasselblad, but that is going to be years and years away from happening. Perhaps if I can ever get my photography business to another level.

Why didn't I skip the MkII and get the new Canon 5D MarkIII? Price. Price, and I shoot controlled studio and location portraits. I don't need all the new AF bells and whistles that the MkIII has. Especially not at their asking price.

Why did it take so long to save up for the MkII? Well, I read a quote a while back that sums it up perfectly: "The amateur spends all their money on the newest cameras and lenses. The professional spends all their money on business cards and marketing materials."

That pretty much sums it up. ;)

Kodak Verichrome Pan

Kodak Verichrome Pan

From the "Thanks Mom!" department: I was gifted a really nice Ansco Shur Shot box camera from the 1940's the other day, and when I opened the back of the camera, there was a sealed roll of Kodak Verichrome Pan 120 film stashed in there. It's expiration date was June 1968. How cool. Part of me wants to shoot with it, but I'm going to leave it in the fridge for a while until I find the right reason to use it.

Thanks Mom!

Once again I had the privilege of working with the Hippo to produce photographs for their glossy "Best Of" yearly magazine.

There is a very small sampling from the varied sessions, with a majority of them being taken at "Lucky's Barbershop" in Concord, NH. They rule and I loved photographing them.

To read the whole Best Of issue, {click here}, or if you are located in the Southern NH area, pick one up wherever the weekly edition of the Hippo can be found.
