      thanks fellow penitents! the light was so flat in aspen yesterday but i think it helped here.

      nancy drew- you've solved the 'mystery at maroon bells'! (well, not really, but i couldn't resist)

      lu & nj- a lot of the branches were black. maybe a recent forest fire?
