Seriously, if you fall for this stuff - you probably deserve the virus. Oh, and if you're still using Windows by choice - you definitely deserve the virus. ;)

	cdevroe says: masto: I do display HTML email with images on, why wouldn't I? And, I did not click through to their site. I always, always, always, hover links in emails. Not that I'd get a virus anyway if I did click on the link. And the plasq crew will have to speak to whether or not they are meanies. 	masto says: I'm hoping I was fast enough... blog.chrismasto.com/articles/2007/05/21/how-i d-use-skitch As for HTML e-mail, the reason not to display images is that most spammers have figured out that they can embed a tracking code in the image URL, so they know when you view the message, and they know the spam made it through to a live e-mail address. It's not exactly a security vulnerability, but it's feels like a "bad touch" to me, so I turn remote images off and only view them from the occasional trusted sender. Posted 14 months ago. And of course once the spammer knows your email addy is 'live', its even more lucrative to the spammers, and will no doubt get sold on to other spammers. BTW I received one of these spam 'Hallmark postcard.exe virus' emails yesterday, of course my email client is set not to render any images or HTML. Posted 14 months ago. ( permalink )
