Walls of China - Mungo National Park, Australia

Mungo National Park lies mostly within the Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area and is listed in recognition of its Aboriginal heritage and preserved information of past climates. The lunette (pictured), otherwise known as the 'Walls of China', stretches roughly 25km along the now dry lake's eastern shore and contain extremely well preserved campfires, cooking hearths and burials.

If you go to my map in hybrid view with the link below, and zoom in where this image is located, you can actually see for yourself the extent of the amazing crescent shaped lunette.

I like your use of a polarising filter to increase the contrast between the sky and the Walls of China.

It sounds like a facinating place to visit. Archaeologically speaking, the remains of past occupation in Australia are very subtle. There isn't always a lot to see. Somehow, you have managed to see a couple of the "biggies" - Lake Mungo and Lawn Hill are very important Pleistocene sites.

Good photos of both, well done.

ndnbrunei : Thanks, the filter worked a treat here. It's interesting you mention the nature of discovering information of past occupation because I'd read a lot of information in the visitors centre before heading to 'the walls' about the fossils of this area. I saw no indication walking around but I probably should have taken a local tour to really see it. I managed to get here because my grandparents in Mildura were having their 50th wedding anniversary and I skipped an RSL lunch to burn down the dusty roads of the mallee! I did however get back in time for the Chinese takeaway they ordered from the Irymple Pub.
