Here is the late owner of the camera collection in the following picture, Gerald Shepardson. This was about 2 blocks from my house. I walked in and said my usual "Got any old cameras?"
I got a funny look, and a "you'd better come in here."
Wow. Motherlode! This is a pretty good idea of what's available:
We chatted for quite a while. I found way too much that I *wanted*, but managed to dial it back to what would work for me. I had two rules: no more new formats (so the Speed Graphic was out), and no more new mounts (So Nikon, Canon EF, Canon FD, and Pentax Screwmount). That limited things nicely.
Gerald "Papa Bear" sounds to have been quite a guy... made friends easily, learned his whole life, and took stellar photos. I got to see some of the old wedding photos he took. All of them exposed beautifully and printed extremely well. He knew his craft. He had quite an eye for cameras as well- there were a lot of great finds there. I would have loved to give it all a good home!
