It's just wonderful--so contemporary looking, but yet so connected with traditional quilting too. (And that's pretty much why quilts in general make me weak in the knees.) I love the way you used color in this--so subtle. Congrats on a job well done!

It's absolutely perfect. And such a great way to reuse materials. I really love the handquilting too, it gives it the extra touch to see those stitches on top that came from your own hands :)

Thanks, everyone! This was a project that's been in my head for a few years and so it's lovely to finally have it be a reality. I may have turned on my a/c (at 76F) so that I can use it as a lap blanket on the couch this afternoon...

Oh, yes, that's exactly why I love quilting so much. Somehow I feel a huge connection to my dad and his family. He told me stories of sitting under the center of the frame during bees to catch needles and listen in on the ladies' gossip when he was little. Their quilts look much like those of Gee's Bend.

It took me about three years to gather about 25 pairs of pants, which is enough for two or three tops. We in my family all wear our clothes until threadbare, so I was just waiting them out...

Thanks! And yours is next. ;o)

Oh my god, it's so beautiful. It's funny, it actually rminds me of my bf.

I saw this today and it made me think of you. (Not the purse, the quilt-y-ness of it)

Heh, I just spent the past half-hour scrutinizing all the shots of that bag on her site, to figure out how it's constructed!

It's a good thing my mom and grandmother are both serial crafters. People are used to these kinds of request in our family!

I'd totally say something about "take your time, I'm in no hurry!", but then I would just be a flat out liar. My first thought when I saw this quilt was "sweet, the queue is one shorter!" ;)
