    Materials: 100 silk neckties, sheerweight interfacing, black Kona cotton, brocade remnants

    Umm, there's enough silk leftover from just these ties to make two more quilts.

      Thanks, everyone! This was a long process--with a few years of planning--that will continue. There are still lots and lots of ties in my house.

      I think so, too. *blushing*

      Yeah, I'm having the quilting done by machine with a loose all-over design. I'd love to handquilt it, but the fusing from the interfacing annoyed me when I tried it on a swatch.

      I love this necktie quilt. A few questions: when you worked with the ties, did you just open them up all the way and take out all the original interfacing? Did you wash any of the ties before using them? Did you take out the tie's own lining? Thanks!

      i had all the ties drycleaned first. then i completely dismantled each tie by hand and only worked with the pure silk outer shell. i'll likely use the linings in another project, but the interfacings were soiled and so went into the garbage. i used lightweight pellon interfacing on the silk. i hope this helps!
