Socks of Kindness: a recipe

Socks of Kindness: a recipe by cauchy09.
Jojoland Melody superwash (MS18), a gift from Janet !
US 1.5 (2.5mm) circular or dpns

Here's the recipe..queue it on Ravelry here.

Cast on 64st, join for knitting in the round.

Ribbing: Knit in 2x2 ribbing until the piece measures 1.25".

Leg: Knit the crosshatch lace pattern given below as many times as you like, ending after Row 6 or after Row 12. Each 12-row repeat measures 1".

Row 1: *k5, k2tog, yo, k1*, repeat eight times
Row 2: *k4, k2tog, yo, k2*, repeat eight times
Row 3: *k3, k2tog, yo, k3*, repeat eight times
Row 4: *k2, k2tog, yo, k4*, repeat eight times
Row 5: *k1, k2tog, yo, k5*, repeat eight times
Row 6: *k2tog, yo, k6*, repeat eight times
Row 7: *k1, yo, ssk, k5*, repeat eight times
Row 8: *k2, yo, ssk, k4*, repeat eight times
Row 9: *k3, yo, ssk, k3*, repeat eight times
Row 10: *k4, yo, ssk, k2*, repeat eight times
Row 11: *k5, yo, ssk, k1*, repeat eight times
Row 12: *k6, yo, ssk*, repeat eight times

[I knit 7.5 repeats on mine. And to prepare for the short row heel, I knit the final half-repeat only on half of the stitches and introduced a band of stockinette on the other half. (The lace side will be on the top of the foot.) This keeps the yarnovers away from the top of my shoes on my ankle.]

Heel: Knit a short row heel on 32 stitches, in the manner of this tutorial, wrapping 9 stitches on each side.

Instep: Rejoin and continue the lace pattern on the top of the foot and stockinette on the sole until the piece measures 2" less than the desired total foot length.

[I knit 5.5 repeats to get a 7.25" piece from the back of the heel to the start of the toe, since my foot is 9.25" total.]

Toe: Decrease in a spiral, like this:

Row 1: *k6, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Rows 2-7: knit
Row 8: *k5, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Rows 9-13: knit
Row 14: *k4, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Rows 15-18: knit
Row 19: *k3, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Rows 20-22: knit
Row 23: *k2, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Rows 24-25: knit
Row 26: *k1, k2tog*, repeat eight times
Row 27: knit
Row 28: *k2tog*, repeat eight times

Split the remaining 8 stitches between two needles (four from the top of the foot and four on the bottom) and do a 3-needle bind-off.

Weave in ends and block.
