Socks of Kindness: getting started

    Newer Older

The lovely and amazing Janet sent me two balls of Jojoland Melody (MS18) last week in a random act of kindness! They arrived on Saturday and I cast on immediately.

This is crack in yarn form! It's an ombre, like Trekking, but is softer, thicker and a tad more lovely than Trekking. I can't put this down! I only wish that I had started this toe-up so that I could be sure to use every inch of the yarn.

The pattern is an extended crosshatch lace on 64st (multiples of 8 st):

    Row 1: k5, k2tog, yo, k1
    Row 2: k4, k2tog, yo, k2
    Row 3: k3, k2tog, yo, k3
    Row 4: k2, k2tog, yo, k4
    Row 5: k1, k2tog, yo, k5
    Row 6: k2tog, yo, k6
    Row 7: k1, yo, ssk, k5
    Row 8: k2, yo, ssk, k4
    Row 9: k3, yo, ssk, k3
    Row 10: k4, yo, ssk, k2
    Row 11: k5, yo, ssk, k1
    Row 12: k6, yo, ssk

I've been using a weird, faulty circular needle: one stick is 2.25mm, the other is 2.75mm!!! But it averages to my usual 2.5mm fabric, which is fine, I guess? I don't think I'd use it on something where gauge was a serious concern.

Very nice! I like the pattern. I am currently knitting a pair of socks with the same yarn only in the blue/green shades. It is a lovely yarn.

      Thanks again, everyone!

I was surprised by the hand of the regular Melody when I was at your shop. They are like night and day in terms of softness! Weird.
