A-freakin-dorable
Indian Maidens by catiecake.
Like Girl Scouts, but way more hippie. My Indian Maiden name was Yucca Blossom.

So cute. Was this for Halloween or just for fun?

Indian Maidens was a group, sort of like Brownies or the Girl Scouts, but for hippie kids and moms. It was fun/stupid.

Holy crap. They did not really call you Yucca Blossom. Damn hippies.

MY MOM picked out that name. I was not pleased. Especially because the name she chose for herself was decidedly more glamorous.

Sooo, what was your mom's name?

You did look super cute, and I see you had lots of feathers in your headdress. Good job, Yucca Blossom!

I wish I could remember my mom's name. I'm sure she doesn't remember either, but I will ask when I talk to her tonight.

OH MY GOD I WAS AN INDIAN PRINCESS which must be similar to this but it was daddy-daughter instead of mom-daughter.. my name was running deer until we realized that almost every girl had that name so then i changed it to waterfall.

we were the hurons. i don't think they are allowed to have these anymore it's not PC.

Excellent! I thought this was a local thing, but clearly I was wrong about that.

Well I can tell you that my town in Oregon did not have that kind of hippy Indian club thing. But even if we'd had that club, I'm sure my mom would have balked at the idea of membership.

Bless her.

OH! OH! OH! I just found out that my mom's name was Cactus Flower, which is clearly so much better than Yucca Blossom, but she STILL thinks Yucca Blossom is a nice name.

I will say that for those not in the know, yucca blossoms are pretty.

Oh my goodness. I felt like it was a dream only my sister and I shared.... because no one knew what I was talking about when I said I was an Indian Maiden. My mother passed away many many years ago, but I have very vivid and fantastic memories of our trips and activites. I was Running Fox and my mom was Red Fox (hee hee). I grew up in Arizona, so there were a few of us... but I think my sister and I were really the only ones that were even part Native American. Thanks for the flashback. I have a picture and will post it soon.

Yucca Blossom is way cooler than mine! I was Star Light and mom was Bright Star. So lame. But I LOVED Indian Maidens!
